How does it work?
When you open a case page on CanLII, Pinpoint reads the case text and makes it available to an AI model. You can then ask questions in plain language through the side panel, and the AI will generate answers with clickable citations that link back to specific paragraphs in the judgment.
What platforms does Pinpoint support?
Pinpoint works on CanLII (Canadian legal cases) and Google Scholar (US legal cases). There are separate Chrome extensions for each platform. Install the one that matches your jurisdiction.
Is my data private?
Yes. Your questions are processed in real-time and are not permanently stored. We do not access pages outside of supported legal databases, do not collect your browsing history, and do not sell your data. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
How accurate are the AI responses?
Pinpoint generates answers exclusively from the case text you're reading. It cannot draw on outside knowledge or invent facts. Every claim includes a clickable paragraph citation, and the system runs an automatic verification pass that cross-checks each citation against the source text. General-purpose chatbots hallucinate on legal questions more than half the time. Pinpoint's answers are traceable to specific paragraphs in the judgment. It's a research tool, not a substitute for legal judgment.
How is this different from ChatGPT?
General-purpose AI generates answers from pre-trained knowledge and frequently fabricates case names, citations, and legal principles. Pinpoint reads the actual case text on the page and answers only from that document, with clickable citations to the source paragraph.
